THE PAGEANT OF ELLIS ISLAND
One of the 1000 "bachelor girls," mostly from Ireland, but also from Britain and Scandinavia,
came aboard an immigrant ship (left). New York City teemed with suitors for these young ladies
when they landed. A pretty and well-scrubbed but somewhat less forward young lady from
Germany makes her debut at Ellis Island (right).
Slovak women (left), West Indies women (center), and Italian woman and child (right) were
processed at Ellis Island.
